Installing your certificate

Premium access is a certificate your browser holds, not a login. Once it is installed, VPN.free recognises you at the moment the connection opens and stops sending the ads. This page is the same guide that appears during enrollment, so you can read it before you buy or send it to yourself on the computer where the certificate should live.

You need two things from the enrollment screen: the file vpnfree.p12 and the import password printed beside the download. The password is generated for that one download and is not stored anywhere, so if you have lost it, download the file again and use the new password shown with it.

Working out what you are using…

What is actually in the file

A private key your browser generated, a certificate signed by us that says the key paid for premium, and our certificate authority so your browser can check the signature. There is no name in it, no email address and no order number that points back at a person. It carries a random credential identifier and an expiry date, which is everything we need to know that a connection is entitled to the ad-free service and nothing more.

That is also why the file matters. Anyone holding it and its password has the access it represents, exactly as if they were holding a key, so treat it the way you would treat one.
