Terms of Use
These terms govern the paid, ad-free tier of VPN.free. They are written to be read. Where a sentence has to be exact to mean anything, it is exact; everywhere else it is plain, and nothing in the plain half is intended to give you less than the exact half says.
1. Who provides this service
VPN.free and VPN.free Premium are operated and provided by cloudinfrastack, s.r.o., a limited liability company incorporated in the Czech Republic, company number (IČO) 03350860, VAT number CZ03350860, with its registered seat at Tachovské náměstí 290/5, Žižkov, 130 00 Praha 3, Czech Republic, registered in the commercial register kept by Městský soud v Praze under file C 230683.
In these terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean that company. It is the operator of the websites at vpn.free and premium.vpn.free, the service provider for everything described here, and the merchant of record for every payment taken through this site. "You" means the person using the service.
You can reach us at info@vpn.free. The full registered particulars and the supervisory bodies are on the contact page.
2. What the service is
VPN.free is a browser-based proxy. It fetches web pages on your behalf and renders them inside a page in your browser, so that the sites you visit see our servers rather than your own address. It is not a virtual private network in the operating system sense, it does not carry traffic from your other applications, and it does not change how anything outside the browser tab reaches the internet. Where a page on this site says "a browser proxy, not a device VPN", that is meant literally.
The free tier is supported by advertising. Premium is the same service with the advertising removed and a choice of server. Free browsing goes through the server your connection reaches; a premium subscriber can choose among the server locations we operate, which may change over time. It is not faster, and it changes nothing else about how the proxy works. If you are buying it expecting more than the absence of ads and a choice of server, do not buy it.
On Android the certificate is installed in the phone’s settings and used by Chrome. iPhone and iPad are not supported yet: Safari on iOS accepts a certificate only through a signed configuration profile, and that support is still being built.
3. How access works, and what you have to keep
You do not need an account, and by default you do not have one. We do not ask for your name, your email address or any other identifier. Access is instead a TLS client certificate that your device holds. Your browser generates a private key, we sign a certificate saying that key paid for premium, and from then on our servers recognise the certificate when a connection opens. That is true whether or not you make an account: the certificate is the only thing our servers check.
You may optionally link a purchase to an account on our community forum. If you do, we hold an opaque identifier issued by that forum, and nothing else about you: your email address and your password stay with the forum and never reach the systems that sell or issue premium. What linking buys you is set out in Section 3a.
That design has a consequence you have to accept before you buy, and we would rather you read it here than discover it later:
- Without an account, your recovery code is the only receipt that exists. It is shown to you once, before any money moves. We do not store it in a form we can read back, we cannot email it to you, and we cannot look it up from a payment, a wallet address or a date. If you lose it before you have collected your certificate, and the purchase is not linked to an account, the payment is lost with it.
- Your renewal secret is the only way to renew without the certificate itself. The same applies to it.
- A limited number of devices. A purchase entitles a small number of your own devices to the ad-free service at the same time, and the current number is shown on the account page. There is also a limit on how often devices may be added within a rolling thirty days. You may move access between your own devices; you may not share it, sell it or publish it, and access shared beyond your own devices may be withdrawn without a refund under Section 8.
We will never ask you for your recovery code or your renewal secret. Anyone who does is not us.
3a. If you choose to have an account
An account is optional and free. Signing in uses our community forum as the identity provider: you authenticate there, and it tells us only an opaque identifier for you. We never receive your password. We do not store your email address or your forum name. The forum's own terms and privacy notice govern what it holds about you.
An account does three things, and nothing else:
- It lets you recover. A purchase linked to an account can be set up again on a new device without the recovery code, because the account is then a record we can look you up by. This is the one capability an anonymous purchase does not have, and it is the reason accounts exist.
- It shows you your devices, and lets you remove one. Removing a device revokes its certificate, which stops working shortly afterwards.
- It lets you earn access rather than buy it, under Section 6a.
An account never replaces the certificate. Signing in does not, by itself, give you ad-free browsing on the device you signed in from; it lets you set that device up. We may suspend an account that is used to circumvent the device limits in Section 3, which does not by itself revoke certificates already issued.
You may stop using an account at any time by not signing in. Deleting it is covered on the privacy page, together with what we can and cannot do when we hold no identifying record of you.
4. Price, payment and the merchant of record
Prices are shown on the purchase page before you order, in the currency shown there, and they are the total you pay us. Payment is taken through a payment provider that you choose on the payment step: the choice changes who learns about the transaction, and the page tells you which is which before you pick.
Whichever provider you choose, cloudinfrastack, s.r.o. is the merchant of record and the party you are contracting with. A provider may charge a network or conversion fee of its own, which is outside our control and shown by that provider.
Cryptocurrency payments settle for the amount quoted at the moment the invoice is created, and that quote has a short validity window shown on the payment page. An underpaid or late invoice may not activate; a payment that confirms after the window has closed still counts, and you can collect it with your recovery code.
5. Your right of withdrawal, and how you waive it
If you are a consumer in the European Union, you normally have fourteen days to withdraw from a contract concluded at a distance, without giving a reason, under Directive 2011/83/EU and, in the Czech Republic, under Section 1829 of Act No. 89/2012 Coll., the Civil Code.
This service is digital content and a digital service supplied immediately. The certificate is issued and usable as soon as your payment confirms, which is the whole point of it. Under Article 16(m) of the same Directive, and Section 1837 of the Civil Code, that right ends once performance has begun with your prior express consent and your acknowledgement that you thereby lose it.
So, before you pay, the purchase page asks you to tick a box stating exactly that: that you want us to start immediately, and that you understand you are giving up your fourteen day right of withdrawal by doing so. We do not take the money until you have ticked it, and you can close the page instead.
If you would rather keep the right, do not tick the box and do not pay. We have no way to sell you this with a delayed start, because there is nothing to deliver later.
None of this limits your rights where the service is defective. If we do not deliver what these terms describe, Section 7 applies and the waiver above has no bearing on it.
6. Refunds outside the withdrawal right
We will refund you, without argument, in two cases:
- We took your money and you got nothing. A payment confirmed and no certificate could be issued, and we cannot fix it. Write to us with your order id.
- The service is materially not what this page describes and we cannot make it so within a reasonable time after you have told us.
A refund is paid back through the same route the payment arrived by. For a cryptocurrency payment that means back to the paying wallet, and the amount returned is the amount we received, in the asset we received it in: we cannot compensate for a change in exchange rate between the payment and the refund, because we never held the difference.
A refund or a chargeback revokes the access it paid for. The certificate stops being accepted. This is automatic, and it is not a penalty: it is the same event seen from the other side.
6a. Access earned instead of bought
We sometimes give access in exchange for taking part rather than money. There are two ways.
By joining the community. Sign in with a forum account, introduce yourself with a new topic in the forum's Introductions category, join our Discord server and link the Discord account you joined with, and fill in a short form about how you use the service, which sites you use it for and what does not work about them. Every question on that form is optional except naming one site, and what you answer is stored against your account: the privacy notice says exactly what that means and how to have it deleted. Complete all three and we grant a period of premium, once per account. The introduction has to be a topic you started yourself; a reply in somebody else's does not count, and we check the forum rather than taking your word for it. We check the Discord membership the same way, by asking Discord. A Discord account that has already been used to earn this cannot be used again on another VPN.free account.
By testing. A bug report that is published on our forum, one we can reproduce, or one that leads to a fix. The amounts for both routes are shown on the account page and may change at any time for future awards.
Earned access is a gift, not a sale. You pay nothing, so there is nothing to refund, no right of withdrawal arises, and Sections 4, 5 and 6 do not apply to it. It is granted at our discretion; a report being submitted, or published, does not entitle you to anything by itself, and we may decline or withdraw an award where a submission is duplicated, automated, false or made in bad faith. Access already granted and running is not withdrawn retroactively except in those cases.
Whatever you send us in a report, an introduction or the form, you allow us to read, quote and act on, including publicly on our forum. An introduction is a public forum post and is public the moment you write it. Do not send us anything confidential, anything belonging to someone else, or anything you would not want quoted. Section 7 applies to earned access exactly as it does to purchased access, except that our liability for it is limited to nothing, because nothing was paid.
7. What we promise, and what we do not
We will provide the ad-free service for the period you paid for, with the care you would expect of a service sold for money rather than given away.
We do not promise that the proxy will render every website correctly. It rewrites pages so that they work inside a browser tab, some sites actively resist that, and some will break. That is a property of the free service as much as the paid one, and premium changes nothing about it. If a specific site matters to you, try it on the free tier first.
We do not promise uninterrupted availability, and we do not offer a service level agreement. Where an interruption is long enough to matter, tell us and we will extend or refund proportionately.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited under Czech law. Subject to that, our total liability arising out of or in connection with the service is limited to the amount you paid us for the period in which the liability arose. We are not liable for lost profit, lost data or indirect loss.
8. How you may and may not use it
Use it lawfully. That is the whole of the rule, and everything below is an example of it rather than an addition to it.
You may not use VPN.free or VPN.free Premium to:
- do anything unlawful under the law that applies to you or to us;
- access, transmit, store or distribute material that is unlawful, including any sexual material involving minors or produced without consent. We will report such material to the competent authority and we will terminate the access used for it, without refund;
- attack, scan, overload or attempt to gain unauthorised access to any system, ours or anyone else's;
- send unsolicited bulk messages, or use the service to distribute malware;
- infringe someone else's intellectual property, or circumvent a technical measure protecting it;
- resell, share or redistribute your access, or operate the service on behalf of others;
- misrepresent the service as your own, or as affiliated with any site reached through it. We are not affiliated with, and do not endorse, any website a user chooses to visit.
If you breach this section we may suspend or revoke the certificate. Where the breach is serious or unlawful we will do so without notice and without refund. For an anonymous purchase, revocation is the only sanction available to us, because we hold nothing else that identifies you; where a purchase is linked to an account, we may also suspend that account.
9. Term, renewal and expiry
Access lasts for the period stated on the plan you bought, starting when the certificate is issued. It does not renew automatically and there is no subscription to cancel. Nothing is stored that could charge you again. When the certificate expires, the ad-free service stops and the free, ad-supported service continues to work exactly as before.
You can renew before expiry using your certificate or your renewal secret, or from your account page if the purchase is linked to one. Renewal issues a new certificate; an existing one cannot be extended.
10. Your privacy
What we collect, why, and what we genuinely cannot collect, is set out on the privacy page. The short version is that a premium purchase is designed so that there is nothing in our records that points back at a person, and the certificate itself contains no name, address or contact detail.
11. Changes to these terms
We may change these terms for future purchases, and the version in force when you bought is the version that governs your purchase. If we have to change something that affects access you have already paid for, we will say so on this page with the date it changed, and where the change is to your disadvantage you may end the contract and receive a proportionate refund for the unused period. We have no email address for you even if you have an account, because we never receive one, so this page is the only notice we can give and we will not pretend otherwise.
12. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of the Czech Republic. If you are a consumer, this choice does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where you habitually reside.
The courts of the Czech Republic have jurisdiction, again without depriving a consumer of the right to bring proceedings where they live. Before that, the Czech Trade Inspection Authority offers out-of-court settlement of consumer disputes, and the European online dispute resolution platform is open to consumers in the European Union. Both are linked from the contact page.
If a provision of these terms is unenforceable, the rest stands.
